I started this blog 6 months ago to see if I could manage to earn my Writer badge in the Rebel Badge Club. I wasn't at all sure I'd be able to keep it going, let alone enjoy it, but decided to challenge myself regardless. And now here we are in September, I'm still going, and actually do quite enjoy doing this. My initial goal was to blog at least once a week; six months on, I've published 31 posts (including this one) so have more than met that target. Go me!
I've had time over the past few months to reflect a bit on how I want to blog, and what I want to do with this, and still haven't come to any firm conclusions! I like the fact that it's a good place to write up my Rebel Badge things, but also to share other parts of my life too. There's a kayak race (Hasler) and an oncology appointment in my near future, so there are definitely non-badge things that I can easily waffle about - and I'm currently working on around 8-10 badges with varying levels of focus (or not!)...
One thing I've found I enjoy about blogging is that it helps me to focus on the positive things around me - whether it's my own personal achievements, things I've done which brought me joy, or new interests I'm discovering. That's not to say I'm trying to do that awful social media thing of only presenting the good side, and hiding all the messiness of life, but just that for me personally, that's been a beneficial side effect. I'm sure there will be future posts which are less happy (yes cancer, I'm looking at you!) but that's ok too.
I'm going to carry on adding book and film reviews; I've found that knowing I need to write a review helps me think more about things - what I like or don't like, whether I'd recommend it to a friend, how it could have been done differently. As someone who generally just accepts books etc. as they are, without thinking too deeply about them, this is a new thing to me!
Most of all though, I'm going to continue waffling on about anything and everything which occurs to me! Happy reading ;)
